Prepare product images for the web, one step at a time

Open Resize image

A product photo needs enough detail to show what you sell, dimensions that fit the page, and a file size the destination accepts. Start with the store or website's image requirements. There is no single width or quality setting that is right for every shop.

Check the destination first

Write down the accepted formats, required aspect ratio, pixel dimensions and maximum file size. Pixel dimensions describe the image's width and height; file size describes how much data it contains. A photo can meet one requirement while missing the other.

If the destination needs a square and your original is rectangular, use Crop image first. Choose Square · 1:1 and adjust the horizontal and vertical position so the product stays inside the frame. Resizing alone does not give you control over that framing.

Resize, then check the file size

  1. Set the dimensions

Open Resize image and select your photo. Leave Keep aspect ratio enabled, enter the target width or height, then choose Apply & create image. Avoid enlarging a small original just to reach a larger number; extra pixels do not recover missing detail.

  2. Continue with the result

Use Compress this image beside the completed result. Minutil passes that output into the next tool, so you do not need to download and select it again.

  3. Choose the final format early

In Compress image, select the format the destination accepts. Adjust Quality where available, create the result and compare the file size. PNG is lossless and does not have a quality slider.

  4. Inspect the downloaded image

Look at text on packaging, fine edges, fabric and gradients. If details become muddy, raise the quality and create another result from this step's input.

Convert again only when you need another format

The Convert image format action opens the converter with your latest compressed result. This is useful if you also need a different format for a second destination. If the compressed output already meets the requirements, download it and stop there.

Every step starts with fresh settings, and the size comparison is against that step's input. Repeated lossy exports can add visible artifacts, so keep the original and avoid looping through compression unnecessarily.

Before adding it to the product page

  • Open the final file at a useful viewing size and verify that labels remain readable.
  • Check that a crop has not removed a handle, accessory or other important part of the product.
  • For transparent product cutouts, check the background: JPG output fills transparency with white.
  • If the file remains too large, try smaller dimensions within the destination's requirements or a supported alternative format. Compression cannot guarantee a particular reduction.

Put it into practice
